is to provide in vivo research support, animal care and scientific
collaboration. The Associate Scientist II is expected to strive for
excellence in all aspects of the profession of laboratory animal
science and maintain the highest standards. The Associate Scientist
is stakeholder-focused and delivers results through both individual
contribution and collaboration. The Associate Scientist II will
ensure compliance with all applicable animal welfare regulations
and guidelines, the Guide for the Use and Care of Laboratory
Animals and internal standards.Key Responsibilities:

- Support a Culture of Care that exemplifies the highest
standards in laboratory animal welfare.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to animal welfare and the 3Rs,
including providing animal care and research support in compliance
with internal and external regulations and animal welfare
standards.
- Provide quality animal care to animals, including providing
food and water, and provides support with enrichment and
socialization activities.
- On the floor oversight and delivery of complex husbandry for
models requiring additional clinical observations, communication,
and special care.
- Observe, record, and report animal observations. Communicate
clearly and promptly with veterinary staff and research
investigators regarding the health and well-being of animals.
- Provide routine clinical treatments as directed by
veterinarians
- Support research efforts by performing in vivo and limited in
vitro/ex vivo technical procedures such as routine dosing and
sample collection, surgical manipulation, necropsy, and behavioral
assays.
- Accurate and timely data collection, entry, and support of
analysis in various software databases used on site.
- May assist with the development, validation, and translation of
induced (surgically manipulated, compound-administered, or other)
models to/for investigatory staff.
- Quality control and management of all procedures performed
including the preparation and review of study materials to be
archived.
- Partnering to refine techniques and models with the 3Rs as
guiding principles.
- May assist with the development of new, innovative operational
practices, supporting alignment with global thinking, standard
methodologies, and refined techniques.
- Provides input and troubleshoots scientific experiments,
analyses/tasks and recommends modifications to existing systems,
processes, or techniques for improvement.
- Operates laboratory equipment and analytical and other
instruments; and ensures its proper operation and maintenance.
- Provides husbandry training, may provide technical training and
may participate in proficiency assessments.
- Maintain compliance with all training requirements,
departmental SOPs, applicable animal welfare guidelines and
internal compliance regulations.
- Adhere to company and departmental safety and occupational
health policies and procedures while demonstrating proficiency in
safety protocols, including wearing proper personal protective
equipment.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical activities such as
pushing and pulling racks, lifting bags of feed and bedding,
reaching, stooping, and bending. The ability to lift and move up to
50 pounds is required.
- Works under direct supervision with minimal autonomy.
- Written and oral communication skills, teamwork with personnel
within and outside the facility and follow-through on all
correspondence.
- Applicable vaccinations may be required for entry and work
within specific laboratory and vivarium spaces.
- This position requires the ability to work full-time hours at
the designated location.
- Works weekends and holidays as assigned.\r\r
