The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based
on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental
budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses,
specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the
University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of
possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Network Engineering; the Lead Network
Engineer is responsible for overseeing the technical design,
implementation, and project coordination for multiple network
infrastructure projects. The candidate must be well-versed in wired
and wireless network systems.
The hours for this role are Thursday to Sunday from 10am - 8pm.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for day-to-day activities in support of the
development of network architecture (wired and wireless), sets
standards and experiments with new technologies in support of CUIT
and CU-wide objectives.
- Tests new technologies in support of University
objectives.
- Specifies technology for specific applications.
- Responsible for the development of budgets for specific network
infrastructure projects.
- Responsible for the management and coordination of
vendor-provided technical resources.
- Leads, directs and coordinates all network-related activities
for complex projects.
- Develops full life-cycle project plans for medium to large
projects.
- Develops comprehensive documents for multiple applications
and/or subsystems.
- Responsible for the development of new implementation
guidelines and standards.
- Determines how specific technologies will be deployed,
accessed, utilized or decommissioned.
- Ensures that all technical decisions result in coherent system
designs, using the most effective methods and tools.
- Performs network engineering tasks for multiple projects
supporting several University initiatives, including the CU
Manhattanville Campus expansion.
- Develops original and creative technical solutions to ongoing
network engineering efforts.
- Responsible for the documentation of network designs, including
reviewing and archiving as-built network drawings, wireless survey
test results, generating network architecture logical diagrams,
IPv4 and IPv6 address assignments, wireless access point placement
and wireless controller configuration, access layer, distribution
layer and core router configurations.
- Works with business sponsors on change requests to determine
priorities and impact implications.
- Responsible for generating work orders which include detailed
procedures for network installations and changes to be performed by
other team members.
- Provides project management oversight of complex,
cross-technology projects.
- Drafts, presents and assesses other team members' change
requests for submission to the Change Advisory Board.
- Maintains open and collaborative relationships with clients on
ongoing project and maintenance work.
- Collaborates with customer groups to define user requirements
and translate them into technical solutions.
- Works independently, makes time for unplanned assignments and
adapts to changing priorities.
- Stays current with evolving networking technologies,
architectures and best practices.
- Interfaces with senior faculty and staff and is expected to
represent CUIT in a variety of venues.
- Participates in a periodic after-hours on-call
rotation.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required. An advanced degree is
desirable.
- Minimum 5-7 years' related experience.
- 5+ years related work experience in IT working with the
following data and wireless network systems:
- Structured cabling systems
- 802.11 wireless systems
- Network technology components
- IP network protocols and common network configuration
- Ability to perform advanced packet/protocol analysis throughout
the seven-layer OSI reference model.
- Knowledge of data center network infrastructure design best
practices.
- Working knowledge of Cisco switches, routers and Operating
Systems (IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS, ASA OS).
- Proficiency in routing protocols, including EIGRP, OSPF and
BGP.
- Proficiency in Layer 2 network technologies, including Spanning
Tree, DHCP Snooping, ARP Inspection.
- Experience with disaster recovery planning and
testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in working with and generating
spreadsheets.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven
environment.
- Excellence in a variety of competencies including
teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and
influencing skills, and technical expertise.
- Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple
projects.
- Ability to be precise and attentive to detail.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified
Design Professional (CCDP) certification or equivalent
experience.
- Project management experience.
- Understanding of cooling and electrical requirements for data
closets and data centers.
- Familiarity with NYC building and electrical codes.
- Familiarity with BICSI recommended best practices.
- Hands-on experience with the physical installation and
certification of structured cabling systems.
- Proficiency in the use of Bluebeam Revu software for
construction drawing mark-ups and take-offs.
- Experience interpreting construction drawings and
documents.
- Familiarity with the ITIL framework.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and PCI compliance
requirements.
- Familiarity with Aruba wireless solutions.
- Experience in designing and implementing Cloud Networking
solutions in AWS/Azure.
- Familiarity with remote access and site-to-site VPNs.
- Familiarity with Software Defined Networking (SDN).
- Working knowledge of MP-BGP, MPLS VPN, VRF/VRF-Lite.
- Experience designing, configuring and operating:
- DNS and DHCP services.
- Aruba Enterprise WLAN systems.
- Cisco ASA Firewalls/VPN.
- Cisco UCS infrastructure.
- F5 LTM and GTM.
