Job Description
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a highly-motivated,
self-driven thermal/hydraulics engineer for future core design
development. The unit is focused on: (1) defining the design space
and technology required for a next generation attack submarine
targeting high-level notional goals; and (2) evaluating performance
capability versus core cost trade-offs. This project is currently
in the pre-conceptual design phase, and the work may be performed
with simple, first-principles-based scoping tools up through
detailed analyses utilizing the latest design codes. This phase
will be followed by a formal core design effort requiring model
development and analysis. This unit requires frequent and effective
communication with other core design, materials performance, core
manufacturing, testing and reactor plant development groups in
support of this project. This position provides opportunities to
influence technology development for performance gains and cost
reductions. Interested applicants must be comfortable working in a
cross-site unit and be willing to mentor others. This is a unique
opportunity to become a part of the team designing the
next-generation submarine platform for the U.S. nuclear navy.
